Theriogenology (Reproductive Medicine)

The branch of veterinary medicine dedicated to diagnosing and treating male and female reproductive problems is called theriogenology. The word theriogenology originates from the ancient Greek words "Therio" meaning beast or animal, "gen" as in genesis meaning creation, generation, and "ology" meaning study of. Theriogenologists are veterinarians with advanced training in this field.

  • In female animals, this involves the fields of obstetrics and gynecology
  • In male animals, this is called andrology

At NorthStar VETS, our Theriogenology Department is staffed by a board-certified animal reproduction specialist who utilizes the latest diagnostic and treatment technologies currently available.
